A section of Avenue of the Oaks, the major road through the Melrose Resort is now closed and deserted. This section of roadway hosts several hauntingly deserted and deteriorating cottages. Sad, but so interesting to photograph.
The island has a lot of individuals that have created unique spaces.
The oyster houses on Daufuskie derived their name from the residents who worked in the local oyster industry, built and lived in these classic structures.
The oyster industry died years ago and many of these homes were abandoned. While a number of them have been rehabilitated, an unfortunate number remain untouched and deteriorating. We hope to document these classic, vanishing structures.
